Currently the majority of Anchorage’s feed comes from the Lower 48 and Canada. Yet we hear that Alaska farmers cannot sell all their product and have land that is lying fallow due to lack of demand.
The Anchorage Bowl alone is home to more that 5,000 horses, along with many other livestock species such as cows, pigs, sheep, goats, etc. That’s a lot of demand.
The ASWCD is creating a network between producers and buyers that supplies the community’s needs and supports locally-produced products.
